adult salivary gland duct [FBbt_00003136]

A narrow epithelial tube (around 7um in diameter) that carries saliva from the secretory part of the adult salivary glands to the salivary gland common duct. It is lined with a chitinous intima, stiffened by annular, transverse ridges (taenidia). The epithelial cells are stretched thin with nuclei at wide intervals in a narrow band of cytoplasm. (Miller, 1950)
